activitiesgirl 0 Report Share Posted February 11, 2010 I would love to know what any of your are doing to celebrate Mardi Gras with your communities. I am only two weeks on the job (and LOVE it so far!), and I could really use the help of you more seasoned Activity Directors. Thanks!!! turtle 0 Report Share Posted February 12, 2010 We wear masks, decorate wheelchairs and have a parade of residents down the hall. We have done this for five years and they always look forward to it. Have fun!
pkc 0 Report Share Posted February 13, 2010 We did a float last year. Was SMALL so had to be carried but people came out to see how we could get a float through the dinningroom. Had a doll all dressed up with beads etc. inside of a decorated box (Actually used a styafoam cooler to carve it) to look like a float. Shape it and paint. The person who carried it was one of our dinningroom staff who had dressed up. That way the residents could HAND out the beads. Was fun! Got residents out that don't normally come out for it. This is great site!

Inviting people from the local community and having a gumbo & jambalya cook off can always be fun. You can also try a parade through the building with music and dancing. The more exciting you make the parade the more the residents will get involved!
