Interviewing for a Activity Coordinator

Recommended Posts

Hello - I am just starting to take the MEPAP course to eventually become a certified Activity Director. In the meantime, I applied for an Activity Coordinator position and I have my second interview in a couple of weeks. The facility is a skilled nursing facility - 34 bed unit for short or long term care.

Though i am not currently certified or have worked as an activity director - (years ago i was a CNA in a nursing home for a little over 5 years) - they are looking for someone willing to become certified in the next year or so. I guess thats part of the reason I got the interview.

They told me I would be questioned by a panel of 5...

What I would like to know is if anyone could give me some ideas on what types of questions they might ask me for this position.

Thank you,

Sue

Sue, they will want to know that you know the steps you will need to take to be certified. Being prepared to answer this will let them know you are serious. Also let them know how long it will take you to complete the certification and some benefits of having a certified director. They will want to know that you know how to complete the MDS. Know the regulations for activities and how you will make care plans, group activities, and individual activities more person directed. You might want to think about assessments and how you will identify needs and strengths of your residents. Know the elements of culture change and how you can make small changes to make the facility more home like for the residents. Hope this helps.
