:hammer: Hi Linda !

Well, Febuary is a great month to try this one:

Sell Singing Telegrams throughout your facility.

Heres how it works. The Activity Department will offer a list of songs that they will sing to anyone in the building(or make singing telegrams on the phone, cell phones)

for $1.00 or $2.00 each.We made costumes for our dept.(we all wore red pants and made big heart shirts out of cardboard, painted hearts on our faces, put red hair spray in our hair, etc.)We had a list of songs that we would sing-"Let me call you sweetheart",""Oh you beautiful doll","You are my Sunshine"etc.

We started by posting signs all over the facility, then the families and staff gave us their requests(we had a form for them to fill out,name,person/dept. that will get the singing telegram, how much paid, song wanted, time to be delivered.)

On the day of the program we were ready,we sang about 200 singing telegrams and made over $400.00.We even called the local newspaper before hand and they sent a reporter out and we got in the local paper the next day,A great Marketing tool.

Well,Have fun! Gina :-)

:-D hello! let me fill you in on something exciting. well, dig down in your basket and if!you can show a tube of denture cream, well "LET'S MAKE A DEAL!" yes! LET'S MAKE A DEAL game show works for every group I've ever tried it with. get staff to assist you in this. you're going to need three doors. I used room dividers and placed big numbers on them ( #1, #2 and #3). Behind each door you're going to have an assortment of prizes (dollar store). Ask a staff memebr to be your game show assistant. She will dress up in one of her fabulous eveing gowns for the event. You know, VANA all the way  Ask the residents a few days in advance to go through their personal items and pack things they least expect you to ask for. You know; shoe laces, mouth wash, safety pins, dentures and cream, colored socks, cucumber, hair pin, tooth brush, etc. CRAZY STUFF! On the day of the event, have you microphone ready ( I used a broom handle and when I asked the residents questions, they actually talked into the broom handle as if it were a real microphone.) :hammer: Have music and the big announcement to start the show and welcome everybody to LET MAKE A DEAL". Ask if any body has a certain item. The person who does, call them to your stage. and give them a choice between doors for the prize. Make sure you have blopper prizes as well. After the selection, let that person know they they will have an opportunity to trade the prize at the end of the show. The game continues to the end AND IT IS SO MUCH FUN BUT THE GAME SHOW HOST MUST BE EXCITED TO MAKE IT WORTHWHILE. At the end, give the people a choice to trade or to keep what they have already won. Some still end up with bloppers in the end. Have refreshment and THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

Hi, Linda, :-D

There is a wonderful little article written by Sandra Stimson, Excutive Director of Alternative Solutions in Long Term Care (http://www.activitytherapy.com). A free, printer friendly version of her article, A Tribute to Activity Professionals is available for download at http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com/...ofessionals.pdf

I think it would be worth your time to print it out, copy it and distribute it throughout your facility during your special week in February.

Hope this is helpful,

Linda Lucas, AD ;-)
