ptrueblood 0 Report Share Posted October 15, 2008 Hi, I am new at this. I am in an Activity Director's class and I need three (3) activities. These activities must be about Academy Awards. Do anyone know where I can find these activities in academy awards to do my project. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Patricia
heavenstar 0 Report Share Posted October 15, 2008 you can make your own awards. Take black plastic cups and turn upside down. Take an action figure and have the residents spray paint each one gold. Hot glue on the cups. Have the residents vote on the different categories and then watch the awards show. Tie this in with a party and serve appetizers and punch. What we do is have our volunteer appreciation dinner in the theme of Academy Awards. I bought lots of stars and decorations, put out a red carpet flanked by balloons. The staff and I act like paparazzi when the residents walk in and take their picture. They of course, get all dressed up. Before hand, they all vote on who should be the winner of different catagories. We do the awards as mentioned above as thier prizes. Then we have lunch and give each person a small special gift. You could watch movies of the big winners after the show-- one a week or something. Play trivia games Google Academy Awards party ideas and see what comes up. Hope this helps! ptrueblood 0 Author Report Share Posted October 16, 2008 thanks for the suggestion, but I still have to do three activities for each resident. One for Alzhiemer, in-house, and high function. I thought of Bowl me over for the Alzhiemer residents. I guess its just getting things together. I am new at this and never worked in assisted living, nursing homes etc before. I only got in this to learn about the activities to do for residents when I visit them. Patricia you can make your own awards. Take black plastic cups and turn upside down. Thank you so much for sharing. Patricia, First of all, can you have the 3 acts. going on at the same time in the same room, or are they in different buildings? If you can do them together, have a special table for lower functioning and have them observe the show. They will still benefit from being part of the action as the audience. After the paparazzi shoot, have one of your outgoing assisted living residents go volunteer to read easy age appropriate trivia to the lower functioning group. The "fill in the blank" trivia is always good, where the group answers they last part of the phrase or famous names from Hollywood like "Ginger Rogers and Fred ________". Also you could do a lead up activity before hand with the lower functioning group like hand massage and nails for the ladies to provide sensory stim. and make them feel good.
