Restorative Nursing Program

I am the Therapeutic Rec Director (in WI) and recently we added restorative nursing at our facility. Does anyone have any insight on the regulations/role activities plays in the restorative nursing program? Specifically I would like information on having an exercise group (I know 1 staff to every 4 residents on restorative), but can you have other "non-restorative" residents participate, as long as those non-members aren't taking too much of your time for assisting them etc. We've got a great exercise program that the residents love, but we mostly have the residents who aren't a part of the restorative that enjoy the group more than the members. Everyone is welcome, of course, but now I am being told that we can only have resorative candidates in this exercise program in order for it to "count as restorative". Can anyone help me? Its such a great exercise program, I'd hate to exclude people and only have it "members only".

Thank you for any help or pointing me in a direction.....

Hi. We also have a restorative program at our facility but it is done by nursning and CNA's. I know for a fact that some of our residents who are not in restorative go to exercise with the group who is. I don't see anything wrong with that.

One idea for you would be to set your exercise to music...something from their generation with a good upbeat tempo seems to work for our restorative team. Hope I was some help.

Residents that are able and willing to participate and gladly contribute thier service should be given the chance to exercise thier talents. I beleive separating both communities can also bring the mind set of other classafication which is a no no situation. I have worked with the elderly for quiet a while now, and I am sure that you are also know what I am referring to.

I will definitely make it known to the administration spelling all of the pro and cons related to this issue. I think our goal in the healthcare setting is to bring about unity, love, comfort and moreover loving and tender care to all residents.
