Robin,

What I did once for family night was I actually had the family members perform an activity. The trick was I gave them each a disability. Our family nights are held in the dining room. At each table, I had the activity, which was planting flowers/flower seeds. At each table, there were various disabilities. For example, to give someone poor eyesight, I smeared toothpaste on a cheap pair of glases from the dollar tree. Someone else has arthritis, I used bandage tape to tape some fingers together, someone else had to wear thimbles on their fingers. Get the idea. I even made some people blind and some were deaf (using ear plugs). The idea was to give them an idea of how difficult simple tasks can be with a disability. They were also forced to rely on the assistance from others whose disability was not as debilitating as their own.

The families had a blast and really learned something.

Just one idea. Other things we have done, by months of course:

Wild West Round Up

Oktoberfest

Fall Harvest Dinner

Sweetheart Dinner (we lit candles on the tables and dimmed the lights. had them dress semi formal) tHis one took some work to convince the maintenence director to trust us with the candles.

I hope this helps, it's getting a bit long, so i'll cut it off now.
