mguise 0 Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 Does any one have a the role of the councle president? Mine thinks she works for me and that causes alot of prolbems at times. She will tell me [Every one is coming to me and complaing about one thing or another] I will get said residents together to talk about it and they always say they never said any such thing. I do beleive some times they do but I'm sure no one goes to her she goes to them and tells them about some think she does not like and gets every one all upset Does any one have any answers ? Thanks Mary The role of the Resident Council will vary at facilities--depending on the strength of that Resident Council in the facility. My Council president was visible---former RN--54 years old in a longterm care unit. Family members, residents, staff came to her! She was into everything--and she saved our butts many times with the surveyors! A good president can help with bringing residents ideas for activities to you, she can be your ears around the facility when you do new activities. You will need to remind, re-direct her when she oversteps her role. Never discuss "activity, facility matters" in front of her. Let her help with mail, folding newsletters, etc. Call your local Ombudsman--get a Resident Council Handbook---review it. Good luck! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bigchris 1 Report Share Posted March 8, 2007 We had a group of officers for our facility until they thinned out and could no longer preside over the hearings. With that, I became the mediator of the group, which is very hard when they talk about your programs! Anyway, the regs do not state that you need to follow Roberts Rules of Order. You simply need a venue for residents to express concerns in a bias free environment. Maybe a Town Hall? Maybe a formal meeting? You will need to decide. I do suggest the following: 1) Have as many staff that are involved present each meeting. 2) Take precise notes/minutes. 3) If possible, keep a lucid/high function on as an advisor/board member/council member.
