kelly 0 Report Share Posted March 12, 2004 Hello Eveyone! I am planning a senior olypics during Natl Nursing Home Week. I am looking for different ideas. We will have wheelchair racing, discus toss (frisbee) and other similar games. I am looking for ideas that residents can do in teams. Many of the residents are at different functioning levels and unfortunately I have no volunteers to ask to help. It is difficult to get volunteers during the day on weekedays and I am not able to schedule special activities on weekends as I have limited staff to help. Any ideas would be apprecited. Thanks
gina 2 Report Share Posted March 12, 2004 Hi Kelly, Have you asked for help from the families of your residents or from a local school or church?I know that I have had good volunteer turn out from both of these places, make up fliers asking for volunteers( alot of schools will give the high school students credits for volunteering).Anyway,as for ideas for Senior Olympics, how about bowling?Pick up a cheap bowling toy set at walmart and put residents in "bowling leagues"that way you don't have to do alot to help them on that particular game. Also, try floor basketball, get a swimming pool basketball hoop(it has wheels/floaters on the bottom for easy movement).Good luck, sounds like you'll have you hands full !Gina
mona 0 Report Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hi, this is my first time at doing this I hope it is correct. We are a very small home, we have some residents that are older (70-80) and then we have younger residents that have different disablilities (28-43). There are only 25 of them, but they all live in three different buildings, but I am planning an Olympic's week for in July... we are going to start practicing for it the last week of June, so far I have a basketball dribbling (not spelled right), Relay race, and volley ball.... what else could I do??? Pennie 26 Report Share Posted June 17, 2004 Hi Kelly & all, Not sure if this would be S.O. but since this is our S.O. it can be if we & the res. want it to be right So how about a game of horse shoes, washer game & dominoes. These are popular games for our older generation. Doing this in July you may add some sort of water related games ie., water balloon throwing, water pistol shooting the longest distance things like this maybe. Best of luck to you have a great S.O.
