mklimek 0 Report Share Posted October 23, 2006 Hello everyone I am looking for help for my 2007 goals. Every year I submit 2 goals for the following year and this year my administrator has said no to my second goal which has been changed and re-submitted several times. An example of a goal that he did accept for 2007 is: Develop a program that allows residents to communicate with their family members on the internet- this program will be monitored by the recreation department staff with all the policies and procedure and education in place. A few goals that have been refused: Develop a one-to-one mobile computer cart- Included resident education on working with computers and allowing the residents to keep the cart in their room for independent use. Develop a staff education program on "Resident Centered Care/Culture Change" that would include a montly newsletter for the employees and quarterly inservices. There have been other rejected goals and I am drained- So if anyone has a good idea that they would like to share I would be very grateful. Guest Guest_monarch Report Share Posted October 24, 2006 Michelle, As for your goal, I believe you are on the right track with the computer. Instead of letting the resident use it independently in their room, set up a computer where you can teach and assist your residents one on one perhaps in your activity room. I am wondering if your administrator just doesn't want residents keeping them in their room. Just a suggestion. Don't give up.
Guest Tinki Report Share Posted October 25, 2006 Hey Michelle, What about creating a staff motivation program where you implement new staff activities, or contests etc. or Creating a resident motivation program using various motiviating programs and techiques to get residents to attend activities. Just some thoughts! Karen

Michelle Thank you everyone for your feedback- My final and accepted goal is to Develop a series of training modules for recreation and nursing staff conducting all group activities. In our long term care facility the nursing staff conduct activity programs with the dementia residents 24/7. There are two activity programs going on most of the day on the dementia unit. Happy Holidays Everyone.
Guest Guest Report Share Posted November 21, 2006 That is a great goal! I used the New Guidelines to write mine and it was to meet the leisure needs of the bed bound residents with total involvement and education of staff. I have a manual of Activities Inservices that I found in "Current Activities in Long Term Care" magazine that I use. It has a bunch of educational exercises that we are using with our staff and they are enjoying them. I think that constantly educating staff has been helpful for all.
