Hi, my name is Linda. I just got a job as Act. Dir. that I start tomorrow at a 45 capacity nursing home with no alzhiemers residents, which is where most of my experience lies.

I have had over two years experience as an Assistant and am really phyched to be the Director now! I will not have any assistants though. I'm hoping I can talk them into getting me a part-time assistant after a while though.

I'm glad I found this site...

Hi Linda,

welcome to the site & to the world of being an AD. You will find lots of help & support from your fellow AD's so anytime you have questions, comments or a great activity come here  As far as getting them to hire you an assistant you will need to show them that 1 person can't do everything by theselves. so try not to work yourself to death & do not take work home. It will be a fine line at first since you are new at the job. I know you want to show them that you can do the work (they didn't make a mistake by hiring you) but if you do it all then they will expect it & think you don't need any help. best of luck to you & hope you enjoy you new job.

Hi Pennie,

You're right, I do want to go that extra mile to show that I am worth them hiring me! I think I get impatient with myself...

I just completed my second day of work and am learning to ask for information that I need to know. So far, so good. I will definately keep checking out this site and contribute all I can to it in the future :-)

Thanks,

Linda

Hi Mary

I had a rough day last week when I didn't know how I was going to learn the paper work aspect. The social service lady used to do both that job and activities-can you imagine how hard that must have been?!!

She is showing me the ropes now. And I seem to be having difficulty finding the time to go through their cupboard to find out what is avialable for me to use. I am thinking that I might have to come in on my day off to get things organized. My boss was on vacation last week and nobody could get the printmaster program going, so I had to make the Sept. Calendar at home using excel. Really stressed me out!

I guess you guys have been there! Right now I'm, sharing a computer with social services and it's kind of a pain. I wonder if I can get a laptop (I've been wanting one for years now) and get my boss to let me use it. What do you guys think?

To complicate matters, they are getting ready to start the process of remodeling (which is great for the residents and building!), but hard for me to know what I will end up doing with things. Plus the calendar activities are at a minimum through September while I get my bearings. I can only do my best and hope that things work out.

Did you find the transition from assistant to director very difficult? I have to admit I'm trying to get used to knowing that as far as my dept. goes, I get to make the decisions. After the last boss I had, I love that it's just me!

Linda

 Hello every one! My name is Judy. I am looking for a job as an AD in the state of Ms. I worked in a 77 bed facility for 10 years, well the first 6 I was a Certified Nursing Assisitant. I worked closely with activities so when the job came open, I was picked. We have had some Administation changes in our facility in the past year. Our new administator is a very young man(nothing wrong with that) but he wants to make some changes. I was his first change, he called me in and asked me to give up my position as AD. This was on Fri. he told me someone would be in to replace me on Monday. This has been so difficult, being there for 10 years I have become very close to my residents. I hope to find a job in activities I really loved it!! I did not have an assistant and it is very hard to keep up. Volunteers make a big difference if you have any! I had some great ones! I love this site and if I can help let me know.
