An idea to consider would be pictures for your Spanish speaking residents.

Yes pictures are fine, but the two way communication is what they are looking for. Cues/clues as to how to say certain key words as well, to give a better chance of the message being understood. Whether the resident is saying it or the caregiver.

Thanks for your input!

We have ESL classes at our facility. About 90% of our residents speak none to little English-- (Chinese and Russian) so we have the same problems. But the ESL and translators that are residents help! Altavista and Babelfish are two sites that have translators on them that are pretty good.

HELLO EVERYONE!

I HAVE BEEN ACTIVITY DIRECTOR FOR 25 YEARS. I HAVE LOTS OF TRIED AND TRUE EXPERIENCE IN PARTICIPATION FORMS. IT IS ALWAYS A CHALLENGE. I

USE AND INDIVIDUAL PLANNED PARTICIPATION RECORD WHICH REFLECTS OFF OF THE CARE PLAN. I USE COLOR CODES AND THE DAILY CENSUS SHEET FOR ATTENDANCE RECORDS. IT TO IS COLOR CODED. THE STATE SURVEY IS WANTING INDIVIDUAL CARE PLANNED ACTIVITY SO I MAKE SURE MY PARTICIPATION SHEETS REFLECT WHAT THE ACTIVITIES ARE THAT HAS BEEN CARE PLANNED. THESE ARE HIGH LIGHTED IN YELLOW TO ALERT THE ACTIVITY STAFF.

I WOULD LIKE SOME RESOURCE MATERIALS ON COMMUNICATION BOARDS FOR NON VERBAL RESIDENTS. I HAVE NAVAJO, APACHE,SPANISH,AND RESIDENTS WHO CAN NOT SPEAK ANY LANGUAGE. IF ANY ONE HAS SOME RESOURCES TO SHARE PLEASE EMAIL ME AT frank_maryjo@yahoo.com OR SHARE IT ON THIS SITE. THANKS SO MUCH

MARY JO FRANK :hammer:
