Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I write a column for New Day magazine and I am very intersted in seeing what Activities Professionals would like to hear about. It can be specifically activities related, healthcare related, career related, etc.- anything that is pertinent and helpful to our jobs! I would appreciate any input anyone would like to share, and also feel free to email me at: jmwood01@hotmail.com. Thank you and have a great day! :-)

Hi Julie, Sounds like a good idea. Get to know the profession from other AD's and don't forget us AA's. As for articles, I would like to see more input on what's it's like being an AA. We are the in-betweener's, not here nor there. Most of us AA's can do the AD job but for some reason perfer to remain AA's. There's an article for you... Why Aren't AA's Becoming AD's? I'm an AA and I just am lazy getting my certification. I am waiting for activitydirector.org and that might make it easier (for me) to do the course online. But then again is it truly something I want? There are some online courses but I think activitydirector.net and .com websites are the greatest around. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts with you. Pat 8-)

Hi,

Pat Thank You, Thank You did I say Thank You (lol) for the nice words about our site. We are putting in lots of hours getting it to a place that all AD's & AA's will come to: they know that they will find the answers (help) they need.

My AA's refused to become certified as AD's. I really tried to get both of them to do it but no way! They said they liked being the AA's, first they didn't have the stress, not near as much paperwork or pressure & got to do the job they loved, being w/ res. & doing the activities.

Julie

I am not sure how others feel about this but I get alot of questions on Quality Assurances (QA). It seems that alot of AD's don't ubderstand exactly what it is &/or how to do it.

Another area that help may be needed in is Men's Activities, geeting them involved, out of their room?!

How to deal w/ the problem res., the ones that alert, know full well what they are doing etc.. but they are bossy, demanding, mean, gossip, try to take over everything etc..

Don't know if this is what you are looking for but if it is well here you go

Thank you Pat and Pennie!!!

I love all 3 ideas! Pat, many of our readers are AA's, and I think it would be great to do an article from their perspective. If it's ok, may I contact you in the future about this? Pennie, QA is always a hot topic...and difficult to do in the Activities Department when so much emphasis is given to Nursing, etc. and we seem to sometimes be left to flounder. As far as Men's Groups...well, I have that problem at times in my facility...I might like to do that article just for a little self-revelation! I agree with you on all points...and it's so hard to program for them. Thank you so much ladies...and keep any other ideas you have coming! I have written over 20 articles and it gets difficult to think of fresh topics sometimes ...things people in our profession really need and want to hear about. Thanks again!

Julie :-)

Christine122,

Another Great Idea, Thank you so much! Since this is where I go to get all of my ideas...of course it would have to be in conjunction with and with permission of the website creators, but definately something Activities Professionals would be interested in! Thank you.

I will give a hear hear on the PENNIE RULES! But you all RULE, you are the main reason these sites are so successful- If if weren't for all the members and guest creating topics, and handing out advice and information there would be no site! We are here to help each other- Everyone needs to give themselves a pat on the back for helping to make this field more professional! Also for being proactive enough to find sites like this and participate! We all can use help and ideas!
