tootnskoot 0 Report Share Posted November 3, 2005 Has anyone ever tried a drive-in movie activity? (Actually, it's a walk-up and sit down movie.) My name is Jill and I work for a CCRC in Dallas, TX. We are going to give this a shot (weather permitting) on Nov. 11th. Any advice/experience/input you have would be welcome! Thanks.
Guest Guest_Carrie Report Share Posted November 3, 2005 No, I haven't but I also work for a CCRC in Tulsa, OK and am the manager over the health centers which includes the Assisted Living, skilled and dementia unit. I think it is a great idea. My only concern would be that they might get restless...what type of resident's are you taking? Let us know how it turns out... wonytineres 0 Report Share Posted November 7, 2005 I have never tried a drive in movie but I have taken small groups of assisted living/skilled nursing residents to the movie theater. It has worked fine- be sure to arrive early- you would be amazed how much longer it takes to get everyone settled and once the lights are dimmed forget about adjusting wheelchairs, foot pedals, etc. Good luck! LECINSA 0 Report Share Posted November 12, 2005 Hi All! I agree arriving early is the key. If you get there early you can ask the staff to turn up the lights (makes getting settled so much easier). Our groups gets bigger every time. We always have a blast! :-D
kristas_mom3 0 Report Share Posted November 19, 2005 I have a funny story to tell about the movies. Our residents LOVE to go to the show for an outing and we go at least 2x monthly...usually its the same group with only one or two resident variations each time (and we have a sign up sheet!) We do arrive early and get settled and are usually the first there to pick our seats with wheelchairs in front. One day during our visit to the local cinema...it was a crowded day as the show had a huge turnout. The show started with previews and got quite loud and then suddenly quieted down just as one of our residents was shouting and asking "COULD YOU PLEASE TURN THE TV DOWN!" Everyone in the whole cinema was giggling. The resident was half asleep waiting for the show to begin and had begun giggling herself once she realized what she had just done. It was great.
