  1. we now have a facility cat, which is working out great. however, before this, we would have pet days. i would have to set aside everything and make sure the dog was taken care of. you couldn't let it out of your site. it was our dietary manager's dog and was very sweet. if they animal you are having come in right now isn't working, try to find another. some pets just aren't meant to come into a nursing home.
  2. i've thought about doing something like this. my residents are very religious and sometimes prude.lol. i wasn't sure how they would handle a "murder mystery." so i am currently talking with several staff members about some sort of robbery, maybe something like the old train robberies. i would love to be able to pull it off.
  3. My name is Kayla. I am from southern Ohio and work at a 122 bed facility. I worked as an STNA in the same building for less than a year before becoming the activity director. I love working with the residents, but seem to never have enough time to do all the things they want to do. I hope to learn more every year. I cannot wait to finish the MEPAP classes and become nationally certified. I'm looking forward to learning all kinds of new tips.
  4. Oh my!lol. That would be a hard decision to make. I haven't had to deal with anything like that since I've been the Activity Director at my building, but I guess in the past they have set up private viewings of adult films for the men. I know it's not exactly the same, but maybe they can compromise. Good luck!
  5. We have a Wii. The residents get so frustrated when they can't play a game right. They love to box. They cheer eachother on and really go at it.lol. I found a racing game and bought the steering wheel adapter, it wasn't bad. Also I rented a Carnival game once and it had several different games on it that the residents seemed to enjoy. Many of them just enjoy watching, because they aren't sure what to do. Either way, I guess all that matters is that they have fun.
