As the director, you have to remain in control. Take her aside and have a discussion, explaining that you are in control and that you'd appreciate her input, but you have the final say. If it doesn't work, write her up. That's what I had to do with one of my assisstants.

Hey! We PARTY! I've been the assistant since 2000, director since '05. I have flyers & posters several weeks before. I schedule "Dress up" days every day Monday through Saturday and music almost every day. The boss allows up to $50 per day for entertainment and dietary orders special treats. We even have a Talent show one night and the boss gives out cash prizes to the top 3 as voted on by the resident judges , who are elected by the residents' council!!! Have FUN!

When my residents were predominantly isolated in January with the flu, the A/V carts made the rounds. One cart has a boom box with tapes & cd's and talking books. The other has a 15" flat TV with a VCR & a DVD player, along with a selection on old TV shows (Lucy, Carol Burnett, etc.) and some old movies. Each person got to use the cart for 2 h & then it moved on. We also had a CMA on light duty. She took my Sunshins Cart I use for room visits and went to do everyone's nails & read poetry & Bible chapters to them.

We've had our Wii about 2 weeks and they are having a blast. I have a teenager in on the weekends & she suggested it. When we talked to our administrator, he thought it was great and even went on-line & found us one with the sprot game pack for $350!

I've worked act for 7 years. Started running my dept 3 yrs ago and implemented working holidays, except Thanksgiving & Christmas. These 2 are days off, because it was too hard for residents to get ready for families coming in and making it to their meal, or going out. That, and with the huge holiday meals, all of the facility is being set up for an inflow of visitors. We do have act. boxes @ every nurses' station with games, cards, puzzles, etc and the act room has over 100+ movies if they want to watch and is opened all day. We have a 220 bed facility.
