One of the key factors that my administrator is always checking with me about is getting a strong volunteer program started. I am lost as to how to do this having only been doing this a year I have just really gotten a feel for my job.... I have tried several different ways to recruit volunteers and get a few but they end up leaving within a month or so due to other obligations usually..... My question where and how do you get solid volunteers that want to come in and stay to help with the program or integrate new ideas?

Hello all I am relieved to find that we all have similar pains but also share the joys of this profession. I am 27 yrs old, Activity Director in Oklahoma City OK, very new to the profession only been in it a year. I worked retail prior to that. We average about 120 residents all different levels of care and status. One question I have for you all is about culture change....have you heard about it are you in the process of doing it? Or do you have any idea about what I am talking about? I look forward to gleaning and sharing ideas about our programs.

Last year was my first year I was told in the past they had entertainers however last year I formed a Christmas choir with our own residents and they sang the traditional christmas songs (about 4 songs I think) we are planning to do that again this year they really enjoy being a part of what you are doing.
