Guest Suzy Report Share Posted August 15, 2005 I recently learned of the title "Activities Therapist" that a hospital employee has. Anyone know what that is, how one qualifies for it, and if it's different from and AD?
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted August 15, 2005 Hi Suzy, I took a class with a lady who worked in the hospital doing act. I don't recall if she held the title as therapist. At that time my comapny called me a recreational director so maybe it just what that hospital has decide to call their AD?! I do remember that she had to do act., & calendars for all ages & her calendar was for shorth term stay res. Also most of hers were in thearpy of some sort & rarely got out of bed or attended act outside of their rooms (for various reasons) I wonder if this is the same thing? Let us know what you learn about it please. Pennie
JL_CTRS 0 Report Share Posted August 19, 2005 Hello everyone, I just learned of this term as well. I am a CTRS however, in our sub acute levels, we have activity directors but they are referred to as Activity Therapists which suprises me. When I first became a CTRS (6 years of intensive college, field works, and internships), all an activity director had to do was to complete a 36 hour course with really no 'therapeutic'/ hands on training. So I do not understand the title of therapist. I plan on researching this and will post back on what I find out. Sincerely, JL_CTRS California
Guest Tinki Report Share Posted August 19, 2005 I believe that that is just a title for the Activity Director at the facility. I have heard of Social Director, Program Director etc... The facility usually tries to make the position seem as professional as possible so they problem think activity therapist is more "fancy" Karen
