Guest Tinki Report Share Posted May 12, 2005 Hey Stacy Well I was thinking that I would have people send me pictures of thier best bulletin boards and compile them in a book and sell it on my website. I too think there is a big need. I believe sometimes you just need to look at someone's else stuff and a flood of ideas will come. Bulletin Boards is one of my biggest weaknesses Karen :-D
Guest Tinki Report Share Posted May 19, 2005 Looks like we need more information on Men's Activities. I think they are the hardest population to get motivated. Does anyone know of any good information out there?
Guest arline Report Share Posted May 19, 2005 I work in a retirement community with 7 levels of care. I'm one of the activity directors. some of the ideas we have had for our men are, Tools (old and new) one of my assistance husband works at Lowes and they let him bring in some of the newer tools like lazar leveler, and then he brought some tools of his, his fathers, and his grandfathers. Also on resident started on of the foundrys in our town and it has now went out of busuiness but alot of our residents had worked there or had family that did so he did a presentation on what the foundry did and it's history. We had an Argucalture Teacher from on of our schools come in and talk about how thing have changed. We look at our residents occupations and try to get people from the community to come in and do presentations. Most do this for free. We also had the owner of Fred First Ford come and talk about automobiles. hope this helps
Guest Tinki Report Share Posted May 19, 2005 I am curious, I am working on a book that is about Clubs and Groups used in the Activity Profession. I think Clubs are a big trend in the field it can make an resident feel part of something special. Do you guys have special clubs going on in your facility? StacieO 0 Report Share Posted May 20, 2005 We have a group of "Red Hat Ladies". Our group is called, "The Granite Manor Queens". We also do a men's breakfast 1x/month - but I average less than 15 men at any given time. Small facility, only 57 beds when full - which we are not even close to right now :-( . We are also again starting our garden club & I have a volunteer that is helping me start a poetry club. He's willing to come in w/ poetry books & read poetry & also encourage his group to read/write poetry. I'm anxious to see how that goes! I've been trying to get some of the local clubs that I know of in my area to at least come here & talk about what they do & just have coffee w/ our residents, maybe that would spark some interest in another group. (That's how we got our Red Hatter's group going.) One of the groups I've been working on is the local drama club. Stacie O.
