Kate 0 Report Share Posted March 23, 2005 :-) Hello everyone! I just have a quick question for you, What is your relationship with Occupational Therapists? What do they do within your work place? Thanks! Kate ElderCare Activities Guide www.activities4elders.com
StacieO 0 Report Share Posted March 24, 2005 Kate: In our facility, I find our OT a great resource. She's very helpful w/ ideas & helping me get a handle on some of my resident's level of cognition. OT's are a great place to find adaptive equipment. Our OT dept. works w/ our medicare residents on ADL's, cognitive issues, positioning in w/c, & also seating in our dining room. She will ask me/my department to follow through w/ some things when OT is done w/ a resident. I find in our facility, I work much more w/ OT than I do w/ PT. (I'm also a bit biased, my mother is an OT in NM & my sister is a COTA here in MN.)
Stacy 0 Report Share Posted March 25, 2005 I haven't really tapped into that resource. It seems that our therapists get so busy, that they don't have to to do other things. Maybe I'll try to tap into her though. Good thought Stacy
howardz 0 Report Share Posted March 28, 2005 Before becoming activities director, I worked as an OT tech. So I find that we work well together as well as on some of the same issues. It is easy to involve them in activities because the work w/ ADL's (like cooking) or UE exercise (like balloon volleyball). Balloon Volleyball can address different interventions and my involve PT as well. I think that OT is a great resource and compliment to Activities.
