sashavowell 0 Report Share Posted August 10, 2016 Sasha Vowell Sasha.vowell09@gmail.com M1-050316 The Travelers Club We have on our calendar is the Travelers Club once a month. It’s like a mini vacation. What we do is pretend we are somewhere around the country and eat the foods they eat, listen to their music, and learn about that place. It also gets the resident talking about places they may have been. This helps with dementia residents by bringing back memories with the different sensory triggers such as music and food. Travelers club also helps with Depression because it encourages interaction amongst fellow residents as well as helps facilitate movement which is proven to reduce depression. I gather the information online as to what kind of culture, food, and music the destination has as well as fun facts. I will also find articles, pamphlets, hotels or resorts information and print these things off for the residents. I decorate and make the food, start the music and bring the destination to life. When the residents walk in to the room it’s like a different place. Music is playing in the background, there will be food ready for taste testing. There will also be reading material and maps on display and available for residents to view or read, I also speak to the residents about the place and encourage anyone who has visited these designations to share their memories. Give the resident a little information about the country, state or island like their amusement parks or fun facts. So it gets the residents talking and remembering if they have been to that place or if they wanted to go. What you will need if you want to do this activity are they following: · A computer with internet so you can learn about the place and print off pamphlets ect. · The Food they eat, like if its Hawaii lots of fruit and different kinds of drinks for the resident to try. (make that a game) · Different magazines you could find about the place. Try to find old ones at the library or online that is from their time so they can look at those. · Of course, you will need a creative mind that all activities directors have to decorate the place try 2nd hand stores or ask online for donation that have décor matching your destination. pbaines2 0 Report Share Posted August 12, 2016 I think this is a great idea. I think I will add this to my current activity. I normally put on a video pertaining to a particular country and we talk about that country.
June16 0 Report Share Posted August 16, 2016 We have armchair travel. A guest comes in and shows a slideshow of his travels. I love the idea of having some food of the places he visits. I think it will enhance my program.
