tubbsretricia 0 Report Share Posted October 14, 2014 Fun Friday’s-Who’s Playing? Every Friday of each month, we play movies in the foyer for the residents. Our movies are just a little bit different. Before movies are selected by the residents, we ask the family member to scan and email or send copies of photos throughout stages of the resident life, favorite songs, and the title of the resident favorite movie. Once the photos, favorite song, and the title of favorite their movie was received we create a PowerPoint with images of the resident, along with their favorite song. Then we created the title “Fun Friday’s-Who’s playing Before the movie begins, we show the PowerPoint of the residents and a play their favorite song throughout the presentation. At the end of the presentation the “Title†of the movie is displayed. For those residents whom do not have photos sent to us for the presentation, the movies are selected by the residents and played in the order of selections. Flyers are made up to remind the residents of the selected movie. The residents also help pass out the flyers to others. We have the resident who selected the movie for the next week to pass out popcorn and drinks to the residents. The resident who selected the movie is the host and can tell the other residents why they selected the movie for this Friday. We use the movies to help the residents remember things, places and events which may have occurred during certain times in their life. The events, things, and places help retrigger memory lost. There are times in which we will stop the movie to discuss certain things, people or events. The movie is also a social gathering for the residents. We focus on getting them involved in discussions and questions. Questions are asked to the residents in hope of remembering an event, person or thing. Being around and experiencing familiar things generally makes us comfortable and boosts our mood. Physical things that are familiar can bring to mind all sorts of positive memories we associate with times past. But object-associated memories can be a reason to make a change as well. Familiar places and things can boost their mood. It’s important for all of us to be happy, healthy, wealthy (at least in spirit), and wise, but planning to make too many changes is destined not to work out well. We can relax when we believe we can predict what's coming next, and it’s reasonable to assume that whatever we’re about to experience will be a pleasant memory.
