Isolation, Quarantine and Outbreak

Several times this year, we have had a number of Residents with the flu. Both A and B at different times. The individuals were placed in isolation. This lead to an outbreak and the entire unit was quarantined. I had to remove all props from the unit. We limited visitors to the unit. No one, including staff could leave the unit. We could not have entertainment, pet visits, craft or art, visitors or Pastoral Care on the unit. Yes, we do very good handwashing, props are cleaned regularly, housekeeping is on top of things. Part of it could be the standards our IC team has. Once a couple people are sick, they are aggressive in isolating the unit to prevent spreading it. We had families visit when they were sick. So, it's not the facility. My question- What do you do with Residents during occasions like this? I can't do games that any one would touch anything, I can't cook, I've done so much trivia and IN2L, room visits, card writing, movies, exercise videos. It feels like there's nothing new. Had some people make up 'Red Cross Packets' as busy work, folding towels(which had to be washed after each use). I feel like I'm not doing enough for them. We've done sing a longs. Any ideas?????

It is a game but so well loved by residents that it is worth the trouble -- Bingo -- copy a hugh stack of your card so that they can be tossed after the game is over & use either the blotters or something that can be tossed afterwards like pinto beans.

maybe this could be done if you have a popcorn machine you could make up lots of small bags & then take those into the unit.

how long are they in isolation? that would be a determining factor on what to spend as far as activities go.
