pkc 0 Report Share Posted May 18, 2010 We are an Independent facility. We have many of our residents have pets of various types. Anyway I am planning on a pet show. The original idea was to get a pet store to sponsor prizes but our town is small. So far no luck on that. Tried the humane society as well as the county animal service to see if they would like to come out and help. No luck. Tried one Docotr/Vet so far no luck there either! Tried to reach some wild animal/petting zoo types but most are to far away to come here. Anyone have other ideas? Really wanted to get the community involved as well! heavenstar 0 Report Share Posted May 18, 2010 Where are you at? Maybe I can help. I am the Vice President of the Houston Dog Park Association and we have lots of events with different rescue organizations and pet stores. We may have a connection with someone in your area or else a sister organization. It seems like you have really done a lot of leg work on your own. Don't give up just yet. pkc 0 Author Report Share Posted May 19, 2010 North Orlando FL I spoke to my boss about the dead ends and he said kill it for at least a month or so. ANY thoughts and help would be good! I still want to do it even if it is a month or two away!
Beckilynne 0 Report Share Posted July 12, 2010 I love this idea. What about your local school or Scout troop? If you know of any home schoolers, they may also be a resource. Maybe some of them would want to bring their own pets to participate. They could also help with the set up, the day of the show, and the clean up. For prizes, contact pet food, equipment, and toy companies online to see whether they would donate. Also, they may want to get pix from you for their marketing. An exchange of benefits that might entice them to participate.

pkc 0 Author Report Share Posted July 12, 2010 I guess my town is to small! The pet stores said no thanks. Disappointing but have run into this before in this town. Local school and scouts I have tried to get them involved but since we are independent they aren't interested. Hope someone else can pull it off in their location! THANKS for the suggestions! themusiclady 1 Report Share Posted July 12, 2010 Sorry I'm not having much luck using the new set-up for some reason! What about inviting people and asking them to bring a pet-related item? Families/volunteers/local daycares/school/youth groups/church might be good & any of the petfood or items left over you can donate to the animal shelter- maybe take it there as an outing another day? Crown Trophies make cheap animal trophies for your winners http://www.crownawards.com/StoreFront/indexmain.html and you can print out certificates for other contestants, 'most friendly', 'cuddliest pet', 'obedience' etc.

q1234 0 Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) May be you should reach out to family, friends, staff and supermarkets to help. You could always work with the other facilities in your area on this activity. I hope this helps Q1234 Edited July 14, 2010 by q1234
Carrieactivities 0 Report Share Posted July 26, 2010 This is my first time using the post...hope I do it correctly! We have an annual pet show each year. We are an assistant living facility. I put it in our local paper to let the community know that we are looking for pets, send out emails to residents' family and friends, and hang signs around the building and also in the community (local vets, library, etc...) We have an RSVP and all animals must have proper documents in order to enter. It is Free to enter! We have different categories: most talented, cutest, ugliest, biggest, smallest, etc... We vote by sound-- clapping, whistling, stomping, etc... We make certificate for each category! We also make different kinds of homemade treats to give the pets and then we put them in little gift bags. This year we were lucky and a local VET and pet store is donating prizes, but this is the first year we have ever had "real" prizes. The community, residents, and staff LOVE this event! If you have any other questions please let me know...give it time, but as soon as you do one it will quickly become an annual event! We are an Independent facility. pkc 0 Author Report Share Posted July 28, 2010 I had to postpone this until I could work out the details more. So the rest of my year is now pretty well figured out. Since I am in FL will try for it the first part of next year before the heat kicks in so we can maybe do it outside. (currene temp is 90s plus) THANKS EVREYONE
