elviaperez 0 Report Share Posted September 23, 2004 Good morning everyone, my name is elvia perez and I am a resident in California close to the Monterey Bay. I currently work at an Adult Day Care Center and I have been working here for 5 1/2 and have been loving every single day of it. It's great to know there's a website for the Activity Directors, after being here for soooo long it's sometimes hard to come up with new ideas. Well Thanks to all. lllucas 0 Report Share Posted September 23, 2004 Welcome, Elvia! :-D I have been an AD since 1983 and you are right...it is great to find a website where we can get new ideas. One of my first AD jobs was as Activity Director at McMillan Adult Day Care Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. It was among the first ADC's in the nation. It was a real challenge to come up with ideas :hammer: . Fortunately, Indiana State University was just a few blocks away and we were able to get Recreational Therapy students to volunteer as part of their practicum requirements. Some of them had some great ideas. If you have a college or university nearby give their Recreational Therapy Department a call and see if you can host their students ;-) . I also have a site... http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com which you may visit. If you need a facility newsletter (for free), try my husband's site... http://www.newsletter-express.com. Best wishes, Linda Lucas, AD :pint:
Guest elvia perez Report Share Posted September 23, 2004 Linda I wanted to thank you for the information you have provided, it will help me to come up with new ideas. Here at the center where I work we have new activities every 30 min to keep them interested and also to prevent them from wanting to go home, most of the participants that we have have alzheimers and dementia so it's a bigger challenge. Thank you...

Guest Guest_Bobbie Report Share Posted October 22, 2004 Hi everyone, what a wonderful networking tool this site is. thankyou to the makers!! I am working with mental health aged care and this I find to be very challenging and very rewarding. I am having difficulties with recording attendances and also formulating care plans, any ideas? You may email me if you like with ideas.
Guest Guest_roland Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Hi to all, I too work with mental health aged Bobbie and find that although quite challenging at times, you need to remember that you are only human and are doing the best you can. Paperwork is one of my weaknesses so sorry you wont be getting too much help from me, just hang in there and hopefully someone will post a few ideas. Oh by the way I have been working in the field now for about 20 years and have a team of 15 working which is a good size and reflects the size of our facility. But there is never enough staff to fulfill all the duties
smarteesue 0 Report Share Posted November 1, 2004  Hello I work as a Coordinator at an Assisted Living Facility and also enjoy the fact there is a website where I can get new ideas as well as share them. Now I am beginning my calendar for December, If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Most of my residents are like those at a nursing home, with impairments and dementia. Thanks

lllucas 0 Report Share Posted November 6, 2004 Hi, Sue! :-) Isn't this a wonderful site? Pennie, Chip and Gina have really been gracious in getting my site up, running and promoted. I could not have done it without them. May I suggest two Activity Director sites that contain activity ideas? The first is Gina Salazar's site, Activity Ideas That Work at: http://pages.ivillage.com/ginasalazar2004/ . Gina has activity ideas out the "ying-yang" and has a monthly page on my site. The second is, you guessed it, my site, The Activity Director's Office at: http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com . On it I recommend that you download a great little document titled "Alzheimers/Dementia Activity Ideas." It is from Alternative Solutions in Long-term Care ( http://www.activitytherapy.com ) and is 14 pages in PDF format (i.e. it requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to be installed on your computer). Adobe Acrobat Reader is free, also, and you can find a link for it on my site. I hope this will help you in planning your activities. Best Wishes, Linda Lucas, AD http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com ;-)
CJackson 0 Report Share Posted November 29, 2004 :pint: Hi, my name is Crystal Jackson, and I work for a small skilled nursing facility in Bastrop, Tx. I have been an Activity Director for 1 1/2 years. I really enjoy my job. Whenever someone asks what I do, I tell them I get paid to play games! :-D , of course as we all know its not all fun and games. I really don't like the fact that a lot of people that work in nursing facilities think that Activities are the least important part of a residents day. I have had to work really hard to keep the aides/nurses from interupting an activity to take someone to the shower or give meds. and it still happens. I just recently found this site. and boy am I glad I did. In just a few days of browsing, I found answers to questions I have had for a while!! Thank you so much to the creators!!! this site is heaven sent! :-D
