spartans 0 Report Share Posted September 8, 2008 We decorate our facility in the fall time of the year. Many residents are sad summer has ended and old man winter will soon be upon us. What other activities do you do to prepare for a change in the seasons?
JennyMarie 0 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 Hi Spartans, One of the activities I do with our residents for the season of Autumn, is draw, color, and decorate (with a variety of colors of glitter), all the different types of leaves that will fall from our trees in the area. We will also have a discussion abut each type of tree, etc. and then decorate each resident's room door with the leaves.
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 Hi As you said it is a change in season & old man winter is going to be setting in. If you keep the residents busy with indoor projects that will take thier minds off of this. I beleive they use to find projects to do when they lived in their own home. It is a time to start thinking of cooking soups, making hot chocolate etc. So see if you can get the residents intersted in writing a small cook book with some of their favorite receips. (Add a short story to some of these receips, ie. I remember when I was small & my grandmother would make this soup every year.) These can be sold to raise money or they can make them for a real great Christmas gift(s) for their family. If a cook book is not your residents thing then start planning a big Trick or Treat event at the facility. Decorating for it, planning a spooke house, having a carnaival, hot cider, treats to give out etc. Have a talent show, be creative & see if you can get rsidents involved in planning this project. Of course their is always the family Thanksgiving & Christmas things that the faciltiy does. It is never to early to start planning these. Lastly check & see when resdients need to start working on getting their fall garden ready & what they will want to plant. Just a few things off top of my head. mogreen 0 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 (edited) Fall is a fun time in my building we do a school drive in late Aug and thourgh Sept. I engage residents in discussions of the childern returning to school this was an important time in thier lives. Getting the kids back in school parents get some free time, but on the other hand for some this was a rough time due to have to buy new school supplies. We have discussions of all the fun we had over the summer while looking at pitcures from these programs. And in Oct I make a pumkin patch in the court yard, invite a day care center and have snacks. The childen pair up with a residents pick a pumpkin and they decorate them together. I serive warm cider and spice cookies.
