Flgirl 0 Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 Hi all, Does anyone know of any websites with "good news" to talk to seniors about? I do current events everyday at the day center I work in. We read the newspaper, but needless to say it is usually not good news and being that they have dementia I need to be cautious about what I read to them. I try to find good things that are happening, we've been talking about the elections and of course we do Dear Abbey. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Guest Sherry Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 I also try and use a "good news" format and have trouble finding proper articles to discuss! There are few few online sites but they dont seem to be updated often. Sometimes I use some of the regular news stories and we discuss how something that doesnt really seem like good news might actually have something about it the could be considered good if we were to think in a more positive manner I also use some of the "weird news" which can be fun. I also ask each resident to come to the activity with their own piece of good news from the last week which has been anything from progressing therapy, grandchildren winning a ball game to getting a new cook in the kitchen LOL! Guest Guest_sandy Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 Hi, I sometimes read from Chicken Soup for the Soul - the resdients really like the stories. I have to read them beforehand though, b/c sometimes the strories are really really sad, although they are uplifting. I guess it depends on the kind of reaction you want from your residents! Guest Pat8231 Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 Hi All, I don't know if this is of any help but try www.elderswithoutwalls.com. When I was an AA I used this site. They have "penpals" from all over the world. I did the penpal email program at the facility. Although, I left shortly after that at least the residents corresponded with people from their hometown and even had one lady email to her home country. Stacy 0 Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 There are 4 books out there that are called Daily doses of Nostalgia. One for each season. They have news about things that have happened on that day. I have used to for a "Today in History" group. It's current events, but does have some insteresting things in it. Stacy
