hiya all, im new :D ,,

 

ive just become a activities co-ordinator on my dementia and alzheimer's unit,

 

it is a single person job, so im all by my lonesome, :rolleyes: ive been a carer of e.m.i units for 2 years now, so i know the illnesses well, which will help im sure!!

 

but the management are not giving me any official training for a few months and are less than supportive, and i am concerned about running out of ideas. any ideas guys and girls?? :(

p.s i should of said im only 19 so many staff are also bitter about me getting the promotion, even though i work my bum off, so its not like im even going to get help from them, and we have a huge home, but my specific unit (due to illnesses) holds 15 residents all at various stages of the desease. B)

Hey i have took the position of an activity director at my facility of 98 residents and i worked on the floor as a cna for 3 yrs and now i have been in this position for about 3 months and i was in the same position you are in i am only 19 and no one thought to much about me being promoted to this position but you just have to work as hard at your new job and you did the other to prove to them that no matter what position you are in you do the best you can! Belive me i was there once and now i am starting to get some respect from thoes who that i as the right one!

No worries , I too work by myself as an Activity Director .... I'm not going to lie to you, it is not an easy task keeping up with all the paper work/computer work and then finding time to spend with the Residents and doing fun things. But believe me when I say the reward you get at the end of each day will be worth it , trust me on that one. I have worked by myself for fifteen years now at the same place , there will be times when you think you have had enough , but those feelings pass when that one Resident tells you that you are so special or that they love you or that you do such a good job. Try to remember that you got into the Activity Profession for them (the Residents) and not for the staff . It really doesn't matter how jealous they(the staff) are of you or if they even like you. What matters is you are there for the Residents and to better their quality of life. So Go Get Em' Tiger !!!! Merry ChristMas from the BartMan ;o)

OK I HAVE A QUESTION BARTMAN. I AM THE ONE AND ONLY ACTIVITY DIRECTOR NO ASS. TO HELP ME AND I HAVE A 100 BED FACILITY ON MY HANDS, AND I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED THIS JOB AND I LOVE MY RESIDENTS HERE THEY EACH HAVE A SPECIAL TOUCH ON ME THAT IS WONDERFULL. BUT I HAVE SO MUCH PAPER WORK,. COMPUTER WORK, AND TRYING TO THINK OF THINGS TO DO BUT I AM JUST RUNNING OUT OF KOOL IDEAS FOR THEM WITH ALL THE REST OF THE STUFF I AM HAVING TO DO. DO YOU HAVE ANY INTERESTING IDEAS THAT MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME OUT WITH?

We all run out of ideas at some point so what I do is get on line and surf the Activity Profession .... I have found a lot of creative ideas from doing this.
