Mommy1 0 Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 Hi there everyone...... I am new in the Activity Director Field and although I am an extremely creative person, I would like to get some general ideas of what is on your schedules every day. My residents are wanting some different activities.
trixiedg 0 Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 We use the Chicken Soup for the Soul books every Tuesday morning. The residents really enjoy the stories. Some of the stories make us laugh and some make us cry. They say it is one of their favorite activities. They also like the jingo games. It gives them a little bit of easy trivia to make them think and then they have to search their boards to see if they have the answer. bigchris 1 Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 My calendar changes daily due to my residents, I have a variety of programming for all levels so I will usually run my low function in the morning and move to educational or arty stuff near lunch. I then add food related around lunch or dinner and do fun stuff around 2:00. Then I will have a passive activity later in the afternoon. That is the basic structure, then add in volunteers, trips, entertainment. Sorry, I can't be more specific, but we even through in what I can "Spontaneous" activities throughout the day. These are usually, resident volunteer based in which they help me do a project. Basically, the calendar is my minimum schedule that gets added to each week or month. bigchris
OceanGuy23 2 Report Share Posted July 30, 2007 Hi We also read the Chicken Soup for the Soul books and we read them for an activity where we sit in a circle for what we call Stories from the Heart. My residents really love this time and they are touched by the various stories we read to them. We also do jingo, and have a variety of jingo games such as Christmas, Valentines, Geography, I love America and Thanksgiving, plus we also have made some on the computer for St. Patricks Day and New Years and Mothers Day themes. We also have a Cinco de Mayo bingo set. There are still many more jingo games out there to choose from and I find that my residents have just as much fun playing this form of bingo as regular bingo, although regular bingo would still have to be number one We offer a wide range of games such as bowling, bean bag toss and horseracing, and we also play musical wheelchairs which we play by having the residents sit in a circle and pass a ball around and the one holding the ball when the music stops is out until there are only two people competing against each other. They love this game too. I also do Men's Club on Friday afternoons while we have the ladies in a different group have tea time and so I am always looking for more Men's Club ideas, and I do have to recommend Creative Forecasting for Men's ideas plus much much more ideas for various activities. Creative Forecasting is a huge help and so is A New Day magazine, both are AWESOME. We offer much more activities so just let me know where I can help.
