Certification Standards

Does anyone out there know what the qualifications and educational requirements are for becoming Activity Director Certified through the NCCAP? I am enrolled in the MEPAP course and need to know. I have found information on the NCCAP website on educational requirements but unsure about the qualifications. I would appreciate any help or input.

Activity Director Certified (ADC)

 

 

ACTIVITY DIRECTOR CERTIFIED (ADC): One who meets NCCAP standards to direct an activity staff and program.

Track 1

A. ACADEMIC EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree (must include an English (A) PLUS 7 other courses with at least one course from B, C, and D of the required coursework areas).

 

...AND...

 

B. ACTIVITY EXPERIENCE

4,000 hours within past 5 years.

 

...AND...

 

C. CONTINUING EDUCATION

30 clock hours (Body of Knowledge) within past 5 years.

 

...AND...

 

D. MEPAP

Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals (MEPAP).

Track 2

A. ACADEMIC EDUCATION

Associates Degree (including English PLUS 5 other courses, with at least 1 course from B, C, and D of the coursework areas).

B. ACTIVITY EXPERIENCE

C. CONTINUING EDUCATION

30 clock hours (Body of Knowledge) within past 5 years.

 

D. MEPAP

C. CONTINUING EDUCATION

30 clock hours (Body of Knowledge) within past 5 years.

 

D. MEPAP

1. 90-Hour Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals Part 1 (C.C.1-11) and the 90-Hour Practicum (Basic Education Course).

3. 12 semester college credits (cannot include #1 and #2 (must include an English PLUS 1 other required coursework area).

4. 6,000 hours activity experience within the past 5 years.

Hi

Look at the different Tracks & find the track that fits your education level. Then you would need to follow that Track to become certified as an AD through NCCAP.

Example if you take Track 4

Track 4

A. ACADEMIC EDUCATION **This would be the MEPAP 1 Course**

1. 90-Hour Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals Part 1 (C.C.1-11) and the 90-Hour Practicum (Basic Education Course). **If working you can do your practicum while working & be earning your activity expernience hours all at the same time, this goes for the MEPAP 11 as well***

2. 90-Hour Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals Part 2 (C.C.12-20) and 90-Hour Practicum (Advanced Management Course). **This would be the MEPAP 11 course***

3. 12 semester college credits (cannot include #1 and #2 (must include an English PLUS 1 other required coursework area). **This would be (I beleive) 4 classes, each class is about 3 college credits**

 

...AND...

 

B. ACTIVITY EXPERIENCE **This is the hours you work or voulnteer at a facility, If you are working as the AD now & work 40 hrs a week then it would take about 3 yrs to get the required hours needed***

4. 6,000 hours activity experience within the past 5 years.

 

...AND...

 

C. CONTINUING EDUCATION **Some of these can be In-services you have attened at your facility & you can get CEU's on-line, these are actually very easy to get** 30 clock hours (Body of Knowledge) within past 5 years.

 

So you need to get your college credits, both MEPAP courses, 30 CEU hours & the required experience.

It will take time to get this all done, but don't let it over whelm you just work on them 1 at a time & before you know it you will be done. The good thing is once you are done then you will only need to get 20 CEU's every 2 yrs.

Hi Pennie

I have a question regarding becoming nationally certified as an activity director. I am following Track 2 and have already met part A and I was wondering however if for part B can the 6,000 hours of activity experience be counted as working as an activity assistant. If this is the case then I think I have accomplished part B. It would be great if you could get back to me with this question. Thanks.

My next question is about continuing ed hours. I am an Eden Alternative certified associate. Several from our facility became certified last spring during a three day course. Would this count toward my continuing ed hours? Thanks for all of your help. You guys are great.

It is now required that one complete the entire MEPAP for NCCAP certification. Although you can try Track 4 for your ADPC and then level change once you have the "missing" components. You can use your Eden Alternative course, but the certificaate has to have all of the required information and a time line from the course as it is over 8 hours.

 

Here are the rquirements for the certificate:

 

 

b. a copy (retain original) of certificate of attendance (original may be requested by NCCAP office) that includes:

 

1) name of the attendee

2) title of the educational session

3) date of the session — Sessions/workshops over 8 hours need to include a time outline verifying the number of hours attended

4) clock hours spent in the session

5) instructor's name and credentials

6) signature of instructor or sponsor

7) sponsoring agency
