Our campus is experiencing the flu in different areas. So we are not bringing residents together for large group activities. Some of the residents that have had the flu and are better now, don't want to come out of their rooms for small group activities. This is real draining emotionally. No point for a calendar this month

pray for us

sorry to hear about the flu outbreak chet. instead of cancelling activities and not doing a calendar, what about going to the room to see the residents that are well and do not want to risk coming out of their room. it could be something simple and not very long. try playing a board game with them or get them to share stories about home remedies that their mom used to do when they were sick as a child.

hope this helps. try to say well and not get the flu.

During flu season we spend a lot of time doing 1-1 activities and very small group programs on the units. The biggest thing that we do is supply residents with liquids and fresh fruit. Tea Carts allow us to make sure that folks are hydrated and that they can get beverages that they normally don't get. Including fresh lemon slices and honey. We have all sorts of teas and some orange sections. the biggest thing that our residents enjoy are lemons with peppermint sticks where they can suck the juice through the peppermint stick....why? ....we don't know but it sure is popular.

We also have lemon flavored ice cold water and some hot cocoa. We also have some "Mom's" Chicken Soup Carts......Seems to keep everyone hydrated and the closure of the units seems to go faster. We spend the whole day visiting and soing small groups. Seems with the recent weather it will be a long cold season.

We avoid all of the juices that they get at the facility so we have lots of V8, grape and mixed juices.
