  1. Feeling the heat? The hottest place on Earth is Death Valley with a high of 134 degrees. Try these Science for Seniors activity ideas during these hot days! 1) Hot air rising - materials needed: thin plastic black trash bag, string, rock and cold air. Process: fill the bag with cold air from an air conditioner. Tie bag shut and tie the other end of the string around a rock. Now place the bag in a sunny outside spot on a 90 degree or hotter day. Place it outside where residents can observe. The bag will rise as it heats proving hot air rises. 2) Perfect chocolate chip cookies - materials - baking pan, refrigerator cookie dough, and car parked in sun in 90 degrees. Process - place cookies on the sheet, place sheet on the car dashboard, roll up the windows and leave parked in sun 1.5 hours on 90 degree or hotter day. Allow residents to watch the cookies bake - the inside of the car will exceed 230 degrees! Another reason to never leave anyone sit in a hot car.
