  1. While I am sure that you have already done this for your class, I thought maybe someone else taking the class and reading this might benefit from my response. When I took the MEPAP I class I did not know who to interview either. I got out the yellow pages and looked up facilities in my surrounding areas and called for interviews. Everyone I talked to was most helpful. I had two ladies grant me interviews and I did it over the phone. With gas at $4 a gallon it was much appreciated. They both, after the interview, offered tours of their facilities and said if I needed any help to please call back. I actually ended up knowing one woman and she told me to call her if I was ever looking for a job.
  2. We have had good luck with 4-H clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, RSVP volunteers (as they are always looking for volunteer hours) and the local ARC chapter brings down some of the higher functioning developmentally disabled to help out with some of our activities.
  3. A project that has worked well in my facility is making dog bones for the humane society. It works great for an intergenerational activity and gives back to the community at the same time.
  4. I work in a ALF and a most of my residents can make it to acitivities on their own. But the Aides where I work are great at getting the residents out of their rooms and down to my activities. I am very fortunate.
  5. My name is Nancy and I am from the Finger Lakes region of NY. I work as an Activity Assistant in an Assisted Living Facility that houses 104 residents and we are usually near capacity. I have been at my job for 1 1/2 years and I am currently taking the MEPAP classes. I love my job. I have been offered much better paying positions, but nothing will make me leave what I am doing. I love my job and my residnets.
  6. I work at an Assisted Living Facility. We play bingo five times a week. If the residents miss their bingo they are very upset. I usually get so many players, men and women, that I have to set up extra tables. We play for quarters each game and once a month have dollar bingo. We offer five to seven activities each day so there is something for even the non-bingo players.
