  1. Dancing through the Decades I hear is a good one!! I haven't had a chance to try it myself but I've heard many, many good things about it^^
  2. What we do between our nap and Snack is I have the residents help me make snack. I got a list of acceptable things I could make and I also pull from a book called "It's in the Bag" which is an awesome resourse that give recipies that you amke in a gallon sized ziplock bag. I think my favorite was the Pumpkin muffins that I put all the ingrediants in the bag made sure it was completely sealed, and then passed it around and let each resident squish to their hearts content. Then you just snip one cornor of the bag and pipe the batter into your muffin tin. The residents loved it because they got to help and the kitchen loved it because they didn't have to provide afternoon snack. A lot of times I ask the more cognitive residents to read me the recipie as I'm mixing the ingrediants. Or Maybe, just try switching the relaxing and the physical activities, have something simple and calming for them to wake up to, like a sing-a-long for Bingo, and then after snack move into the more active activities after they've had a chance to wake up and have a bite to eat. Hope this helps^^
  3. Not a problem I'm glad to help! I'll keep my ears open for more classes in Northern California, other than the CommEd classes and ARC. It was nice to find that my local Jc has the classes. I went to CommEd in Sacremento for my ALF and MC certification. Luckily it was only two Saturdays and a Sunday. I don't think I could make the drive from Cloverdale to Sacremento 2 days a week, it's about 130 miles one way. If you have any moe information please let me know! And I hope we can get a few people signed up for that class! Thanks ~MaryAnn
  4. Hi there everyone!! I'm new to these messege boards and I wanted to ask everone a favor! I have recently been searching for a certification course for SNF and I've found one!!!! At Santa Rosa Jr. College in Santa Rosa, Ca. (about 1.5 hours north of SF) here's the discription if you're curious: Assessing needs and developing meaningful programs programs for residents of convalescent hospitals, adult day programs, board and care, and other long-term settings. Concepts of psycho-social needs, medical disorders, documentation, group dynamics, therapeutic programs for the physically and cognitively impaired individual, both young and old. Adaptive devices and programming ideas. This course fulfills California Law, Title 22, requirements to be a qualified activity coordinator. It is also paired with a Clinical Experiance class. IT's held on Fridays 1-4pm, from Jan.-May. The reason I'm asking for help is because if there are not enough people enrolled they will pull the class, and I've been looking for somethign close for a very long time. If you want more information the SRJC's website is santarosa.edu and the class codes are HLC 230 and HLC 230L. Please helpo out a fellow Activity Director Hopeful! Thanks MaryAnn
