  1. Hi Karen, Lucky Dog is a simple game (which works really well in my facility) played with cards and die. I bought ours from one of the activity supply catalogs like S&S or Sea Bay. Can't find it now. You could make your own Lucky Dog game. You need sets of cards 1-6 and one large soft die. Each resident gets a set of six cards flip the cards so that the numbers are facing up in front of the resident, as each person gets a turn they roll the die and turn the number that the die shows over. The first person to get all of their cards flipped is the winner. How easy is that? MaryLou

I have good relations with my residents. I love doing activities with them. 5. What are your weaknesses as and Activity Director? Not having enough time to do all the things that I would like to do for my residents. 6. Do you have activity staff or are you the activity staff? Yes two wonderful, reliable assistants who have been at this facility for over 25 years. 7. Do you drive the bus? We don't have a bus. We have a regular van for the res care. Any outings have to have transportation from a local transportation company. We are very limited where we can go. 8. What is your favorite craft to do with the residents? Painting & coloring. Most of our residents cannot or will not do crafts that are complicated. When we do a craft kit they want us to do it for them. 9. What has been your favorite outing? We took a small group from res care to the ocean last fall. 10. How many residents in your facility? 99. 11. What did you do before becoming an Activity Director? Operated a printing press in a print shop. 12. What information would you like to know about in this field? New regs. How other facilities do things, new activity ideas. 13. Do you have a good volunteer program? Not really, it is difficult to get volunteers that can be any help. This is not a non profit facility so I cannot garner people from most of the volunteer programs in our area. Most people who want to volunteer have more needs than my residents. 14. If you could only have one game to play with your residents what would it be (not including bingo)? Lucky dog. It is simple and they really enjoy themselves. What are you listening to right now? Silence. I enjoy country music and the oldies rock and roll. What was the last thing you ate? toast. Do you wish on stars? No. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Green.
