I am so happy to know that there are other males in activities on this site. I would have to agree with BigChris that I would probably jump off a bridge if I had to sit behind a desk all day doing taxes. No way, not for me. Give me activities in long term care any day. There is no greater joy and satisfaction in my life than knowing that I am bringing joy to our residents everyday and I know I can go home with a happiness and joy everyday knowing I made a difference in our residents lives. I can't wait to get to work every morning to see our residents smiling faces. Males can be such an asset to activities and I wouldn't trade this profession for the world. I would enjoy talking to other males in this profession and of course anyone else in activities.

Hi everyone. I am new to this site but I think this site is soooo awesome for activity professionals. Although I am not currently an activity director I will be certified by the end of this year. I currently work as an activities assistant in a long term care facility in California which I have worked at for five years. I am a twenty-three year old male who has worked in activities my whole working life. I know this is my passion, working with the elderly and I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Everyday I go to work I know I am bringing joy to our residents lives. I love them so much and I love activities. I am so happy to be taking my activity course but I would also very much like to be nationally certified and I eventually would like to get a degree in Recreational Therapy. Right now I have an Associates Degree. I just wish there were more males who worked in activities but I know I am here and making a big difference in our residents lives. I love reading Creative Forecasting and never miss reading an issue. I would love to talk to all of you and feel free to email me anytime. I would like to know more about what is MEPAP and California Activity guidelines for certification. Talk to you all later.
