  5. I am an activity director seeking work in the Southeast area of Florida. I have a Recreation Therapy degree and am certified by the state of Fl to give inservice training on Alzheimers. Please email at: barbara3065@bellsouth.net Thank you.
  6. Do any of you work with a supervisor who never says anything to compliment you and tell you that you are doing a good job? Also shows favoritism to certain workers, and when those who are not doing their job don't get in trouble, I have to be the one to take care of their mistakes. (My inept assistant<who is her favorite) Sometimes I am so frustrated and believe that she is insecure and does not want anyone to tell her that I am doing great job. I work hard ,have a great program, with little help from my assistant. People from cooperate have complimented my program as well as family. I have even been asked by a cooperate person to get my certificate to be an alzheimer trainer. Jobs are so hard to find here in Florida, and I make more money than most of my collegues in the field but I get SO STRESSED with her. I know I am doing this job to help others, but she makes me so mad sometimes. What would you do, any sugestions?? :pint
  7. Hi, I'd like to know if anyone is owned by Brookdale Senior Living and what kind of company they are. Thanks
  8. Hello all, The other day my program assistants and I were all talking about the things we liked about our job and how lucky we are to be able to know "old time favorite songs " of the 30's, 40's and some 20's because we work in the field and do sing a longs with our populations. Then we wondered what will we be singing when we are in our 70"s? We are ages 25 to 40's. The Beatles ?? Even worse our teenagers, what will be there old time favorites? Isn't that a scary thought?! :-o Hope everyone has a wonderful week and keep singing "You are my Sunshine".
  9. Hi all, I have recently acquired a volunteer, where I work, who is an Art teacher. We are trying to come up with artistic and therapeutic activities for them to do. Nothing childish.Any ideas out there or books on the topic you can suggest? Thanks! Barbara :-)
  10. Working in an Alzheimer's day center, I can say with confidence that my programs sell the place to perspective clients. All of you do too. Afterall, when a tour is being given and a great activity is going on,folks are happy and smiling, it's because of The Activity directors and their staff. Sometimes you dont always get the praise you want from the administration or appreciation.(I am lucky to have a great administrator). However the clients and family members realize how hard you work. I know I dont get paid what I should, but how many people can say that their profession enriches the lives of others and that they have fun doing it.? Until then, everyone keep up the good work! :-)
