I think many of the answers here are great. I would surely lean towards self-directed activities. Any games they like would be perfect (poker, dominoes, bridge), and an evening movie where the concierge makes popcorn might work. I hope this helps.
Without a doubt, it seems that aids should assist in bringing residents to activities. I think this should be documented though in the care plan. There are plenty of residents who need assistance and someone has to help while activities directors are busy implementing activities.
It seems that bingo is just one of those games which never gets old for the residents. We play 2 times a week. What is really fun is doing a special bingo once a month called "big bash bingo." I buy a bunch of neat 3-5$ items from stores and when someone wins they get to pick a gift. They are all rapped up so they are surprised. I hope this helps.
Hi, I'm Ryan, and I'm currently and activities director in Ft. Pierce, Florida. I really enjoy my job and I desire to become as knowledgeable as I can in it. I work with independent and assisted residents, as well as memory care residents. I have a lovely wife, a baby boy on the way, 1 dog, and 2 cats. I look forward to talking to all of you, more.
