Does your community have any policies or restrictions regarding alcohol? I know that many IL communities are rather hands off unless the individuals creates problems in the community. I would discuss this with the administrator for your building to see what options you have available. As for activities, I always had a list of individuals that shouldn't consume alcohol and would not serve it to them in an activity/community event.

I did when I worked in assisted living. I think that the best way to work through this issue to to communicate with your administrator to express your issues to gather support from him or her. Then talk with the DON about the concerns. It is very likely that the DON isn't aware of how you feel or how some of the concerns are effecting your activities/residents.

Hi! My name is Stacy and I currently work as the AD in long-term care. I absolutely love working with this population of people and feel blessed that each resident I have teaches me something new everyday! Outside of my job I enjoy LOTS of hobbies such as oil painting, charcol drawings, kayaking, hiking, yoga and fitness. I also have two kitties, Big Girl and Little One who are very spunky and love trouble. Some other things about me are that I love being in a position to help others, enjoy trying new things and exploring the outdoors. I also love to eat spicy food...India is my favorite followed by Thai and Lebense. Yum! I am super excited to become a national certified activity professional in the near future!
