The Art of Painting
Painting is a meditated result of an artist’s application of wet or dry paint in a flat surface. Painting is all about creativity, passion and focus. Painting shows a person’s character and mood. If you look at the famous paintings, you can relate their artwork to their personality. Most people use painting to express themselves. They translate their positive energy and emotions to create a beautiful artwork.
There are different styles of painting. The popular styles are Abstract painting, Surrealism, and Photorealism. Abstract painting style uses simple colors and shapes. The surrealism is a modern painting style and the image in this painting are often illogical and have a dream like concept. The photorealism style is done by taking a picture of the subject and then painting it. This style is extremely difficult and the artist must possess advance technical ability to capture the realism of the photo.
We have a lot of residents that are very creative and love painting. Most of them likes to paint with water color and acrylic paint. We use water color and acrylic paint because it’s much easier to remove and they dry easily. The activity department provides different kinds of brushes. We have the round bristle, pointed round bristle, flat bristle, detail bristle, bright bristle, filbert bristle, angular bristle and fan bristle. We use all these paint brushes in our painting activities. The activity department also provides different kinds of canvas for the residents to paint. We provide black and white pictures to paint, wood craft materials, different sizes of stained glass, and ceramic figurines.
We painted medium size ceramic figurine last month. The sizes of the figurines are 10†L x 6†W x 5†H. This is a good size for our residents. It’s big enough for them to see. I provided a picture of the real color of the animal so that they can copy from the picture. I also provided different kinds of paint brushes that they can use for the detailing part of the painting. For the month of December our painting project is snowflakes. First we created snowflakes using Popsicle sticks. After we manage to form the snowflakes, we painted it with Christmas colors. The residents were looking forward on painting it because they are excited to see the finish product. While they are painting, we added glitters to the paint to make it more shiny and glamorous. Everybody was thrilled when saw the finished product. They were so proud of themselves because of the great outcome of their hard work.
