Hello Everyone!
I’m Katie and I live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. I moved down here from Pennsylvania last summer, when I started my job as Life Enrichment Leader. Before this, I had been working on cruise ships for the past five years. I was a Youth Program Coordinator, as well as a Social Activities Director on Grand World Cruises. I absolutely loved working on cruises, but I knew that I wanted to begin a new career on land. When I had my interview for my current position, the Executive Director told me that they considered their facility to be a “cruise ship that never leaves port†I knew right away that this would be the perfect job for me. I feel like this is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had, and I love coming to work every day, thinking of new ways to make the residents laugh and smile. I truly care about these residents as if they are an extension of my family. I enjoy reminiscing with them about their travel adventures, and they enjoy hearing about my crazy cruise ship adventures. Some of my favorite activities with the residents are hand massages, BINGO, trivia games, golf cart rides, themed parties, and various outings around the community. I’m so happy I found my new career in the healthcare industry; I cannot wait to continue my education, and provide the best quality activities for my residents. I am currently finishing up my MEPAP1 course. I am excited to use this forum as a networking tool and to help me come up with new activity ideas for my residents.
