Guest Amber Jensen Report Share Posted June 10, 2005  Activity Director, I'm looking for idea's that will get resident's out of there rooms to join in daily activities. I like to do one activity that everyone likes' for them selves, but most of the time they only like to stay in there room. Please help me get the resident's to join in more activities. Guest Tinki Report Share Posted June 10, 2005 I always tell my students that they have to sell the activity to your residents or if all else fails guilt them into coming to the activities. Karen
wonytineres 0 Report Share Posted June 11, 2005 Another item to look at is the timing of your activity schedule... it has been my experience that many activity calendars do not reflect the actual prime activity time for residents. Example: how many residents are awake and available for that 2:00 activity? Chances are not many, and chances are that those who are awake and available are your frequent fliers- you know those residents who attend all activities you have on your calendar. Take a look around your facility around 3:30-4:30 p.m., I would bet there are more residents available at that time, the problem is that many activity departments are beginning to 'shut down' for the day. Guest Tinki Report Share Posted June 11, 2005 That is a great point! Interview your residents about what time they like to do activities, what type, morning or evening. Evaluate the information and you might find a more effective what to implement your activities on your calendar. You might find that an activity is scheduled during the Price is Right and that is why the residents are staying in their rooms. vrf13 0 Report Share Posted June 12, 2005 Sometimes people just get caught up in the "normal" things they do everyday & they need a little extra reminding. Try to make an annoucement at breakfast in the dining room and then stop at the tables and try to drum up some enthusiasm a few people at a time. Tell them to remind all of their friends/neighbors that you may have missed. For the AL side of things, enlist the caregivers to coax the residents out of their rooms. We always tell them they can go back if they decide this activity is not for them -- but they usually stay until the end! I also do this at dinnertime if I have a special entertainer coming in that night. Once again, I remind the caregivers to check with all of the AL residents to see if they would like to attend.
