jzactdirector 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 I envy most of you....My facility only has 15 residents. We are in a small town. I only have 1 volunteer that does 1 activity twice a week and I barely have residents participating in that activity now. I only have about 4 residents that participate in about 50% of my activity calendar. I've worked at this facility for 1 year now. Before that, I was a part time activities assistant, so I was not in charge of planning or implementing...just helping with certain activities. This entire year I have played the game 'trial & error' with my calendar/residents and still feel like I'm losing the battle. I love my job but I want to be better at it. I'm searching for anyone on here that is in a similar community to mine. Which means: Assisted Living Facility with 18 residents or less (No Arbors), small town, no major stores nearby besides Walmart, no mall nearby, no university nearby, in a rural area, less than 2 volunteers available to you, medium budget. If anyone can help me with similar circumstances, I would be so grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!

SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Let's start to talk about the Mother's Day tea and what it looks like for our residents, volunteers and staff.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Mother's Day is May 12th. I am planning on having our social on May 4th.
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 The type of Mother's Day social we have had in the past is a tea. Local church volunteers come in with their china, linens and offer to volunteer their time making our ladies feel special and appreciated. DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Wow! How neat; I wasn't scheduled in the past do we serve anything to eat with the tea?
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 We do! Our department is in charge of providing the various finger sandwiches, scones, marmalade, lemon curds and various teas.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Do we make invitation for the event? Do we invite only woman's or can any female resident attend?
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 We do make invitations for all female residents. I like to consider it more of a celebration of all women, mother's or not.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 That is really nice, I bet it makes those female residents feel special as well.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 I can't believe a whole year went by and it is time for our volunteer luncheon again.
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Yes, it is! May is going to be a very busy time for our department. We have the date and time set up for our 2nd annual volunteer luncheon. The plan is to have as much resident participation as possible in the planning of this event.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 I think that is a great idea, it gives the residents a sense of purpose. Do we know what type of gift we want to present the volunteers?
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Great question. I was thinking you could coordinate with our art therapist Jean to come up with an fun and creative gift for all of our amazing volunteers.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Yes, that's perfect! She comes up with such amazing ideas. The succulents are very big right now, maybe use mason jars with them.
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Great suggestion! We will plan on serving various salads, sandwiches and various drinks. We will then talk about the volunteer program and how much we value all of them helping our residents and department. We will have each of them come up to be honored and give them their gift. DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 That is a great idea. Do we know what we are giving the volunteers yet for their gift?
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 I'll let you and Jean coordinate and make a final decision. Let's finish up by talking about the LTC memorial service for next month.
DanielleT 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Do we know what date we are having the memorial service? It is always a hard day but meaningful to remember those that have passed.
SuzanneS 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2019 Yes it is. We have it scheduled for 2:00 pm on May 17th. I'm trying to get the local hospice to sponsor and send someone over to do the service, still waiting to hear back from them. Currently we have lost 12 long term care residents since February.
