Need idea for large group game

For over 30 years, we have used the same bingo machine and flashboard. It is the same as in large bingo halls. They are very spoiled to this system (some residents have lived and played bingo here for 28 of those years!) Problem is: The machine finally died-- it's been on it's last legs for 10 years and we have always patched it up. The flashboard still works-- but nothing is compatible anymore. I have tried several times in the past to get a donated machine-- when we do, they never work, are in the same condition or convenietly break during transport. And then I have to find someway to haul it off.

Our resdients' council has some money to buy a new one-- but will not have a flashboard-- and this is fine with our small group of regular bingo players. But the large parties-- they really need to see the numbers (especially because they do not speak Engllish)

Here is my question: For large group parties (150 residents and 20 volunteers) what other games can we play? My residents don't speak English so games like pictionary are out. They love Pokeno-- but I can only find the game with 12 cards.

Any ideas on good projects to do?

This is kind of hard to explain. hmm I will look for pics if interested. What I love about this game is that low functioning residents can play because all they need to do is roll the dice and an aid can assist them. It's important to stay hyped and comment on how close the race is getting. The residents get the same rush when they are playing black out bingo. :) Plus they are using hand eye coordination rolling the dice.

My residents really enjoy "races" I do them once or twice a month and try to incorporate it with a holiday or special day. Example Mickey mouse day we used cat mice toys as our racing pieces. You make a really long table and seat residents across from each other because the person sitting across from them will be their partner. down the table you have a long sheet of cloth or paper (we keep ours folded up or rolled up) . Example for ours we have 7 starting positions so we could have 14 people play which would be 7 teams. Then the person takes a cup rolls a dice and whatever number their dice rolls the get to move their mouse or "piece" a long the racing track. Then the person next to the first roller get's to roll. Once once side of the table each rolls the team member from the first person to roll on the other side of the table gets to roll and so on.

This post seems to have been posted a while back, but I thought I would share some input. We play bingo and pokeno (we call it poker keno) two times a week in the afternoons. I have recently had them making their own bingo cards. I simply typed out the numbers that go under each letter, for instance under B you can choose 1-15, I you choose 15-30 and so on. Then I gave them Bingo sheets I created and allowed them to pick what numbers they wanted to go where. They hesitated at first, my bunch isn't big on change, but after they got the hang of it, they LOVE it! I love it as well, often they get huffy with me and tell me I am calling all the wrong numbers, or that they got a defective bingo card. Now I tell them, well you choose those numbers yourself, and they have stopped complaining.

The other game we place once a week is called Rob the Table. I set out numerous prizes in the middle of a long table (4 tables put together), and they go around the table taking turns rolling foam dice. If they roll a 7 or 11 they get to choose a prize out of the middle. If they roll snake eyes (two 1's) they get to choose 2 prizes. Once the prizes have been taken from the middle, we continue rolling the dice, however they start "robbing" from each other. If a resident rolls a 7 or 11, they are allowed to choose ANY prize that ANYONE has. If they roll snake eyes, they get to choose two prizes. I always announce the last 3 rounds as our time is dwindling down, then after the last person rolls the dice, I announce "what you have in front of you, is yours" They absolutely adore this game. The prizes vary each week as a lot of them are donations given by family members, staff members or sometimes by other residents. We have blankets, crackers, cookies, gloves, hats the list goes on and on. I have recently started adding a mystery prize,(several prizes in a brown lunch sack) and they are not allowed to know what is in there until the game is over. It is amazing how the prizes float around from person to person, and they really get into it.
