Hi gang-

My name is Bill Corfield and I'm a professional entertainer who works in the Dayton, Cbus, Cincy markets in southwest Ohio. I average about 400 performances a year and have done this for over 12 years. Happily married for almost 20 years, my wife and I have three teen age daughters. I love sports, especially the NHL and the Penguins (My home town is Pittsburgh, PA) Hmmm, what else? I hold an AA in Performing Arts from CCAC in Pittsburgh as well as a BSBA in MGT/MKT from Robert Morris College, also in Pittsburgh. I toured on the road for several years right after college, then worked for General Mills for over a decade. 14 years ago I left the corporate world and haven't looked back. I'll turn 48 next August. I need to lose 20 pounds, I suppose as well...

My website is: www.billcorfield.com Feel free to visit, enjoy the audio demos and sign the guest book if you wish...

I want to be clear right up front, I'm not trolling for extra work or new accounts. If something ever comes of my presence here, great, but its not my motivation for registering. I registered for this because I like Activity Professionals (for the most part) and I think being able to share my experiences for you, and perhaps some of you sharing experiences with me, we can all benefit.

I've been fortunate to earn a well-thought of reputation in my market. The nicest compliment I ever got from an AD was, "Bill...I have entertainers who are great musically, but not so good with my residents...I also have other performers who are great with my people, but weak musically...You one of the few people in this business who are good at both...that why I call you first all the time"

I work very hard at my job, I have a great respect for my audiences...I don't do concerts...Its more of a house party/living room vibe I try and create, usually with success. I also don't play "nursing home songs." Sure, if someone asks for Let me Call You Sweetheart, I'll play it for them, but usually, its younger material, from the 50's, some of the big band stuff, some country they like, a hymn, maybe a latin tune or a polka, plus seasonal things as the calender dictates. I mix it up, fast/slow, singing/instrumental, etc. I also try and stimulate my audiences with trivia questions, games, stories along the the way...The hour seems to fly by...

So, if there's you've always wanted to ask an entertainer but haven't yet, have at it...

Thanks for having me!

Greetings from Cincinnati, OH!! I work on the westside of cincinnati, i live in Price Hill. I recently went through a bad divorce from an emotionally and verbally abusive man and after 17 years find myself trying to re-establish myself in an apartment with a dog. I have lived here for 20 years. I am originally from NJ. My dog and i for fun visit in nursing homes on pet visits. I've been in this field for 11 years as an Activity Coordinator and up to last year was an AD. The job i had there was sold and management was pushed out. I found a job that gave me 40 hours and a raise -- but i found that i sorely miss being an AD!! There is really a great joy in creating meaningful activities for people that love it and appreciate you for what you do. Where else can you go to work and make people smile just to make them feel better about themselves? And still learn something in return?

This is a "calling" that most people don't understand. It isn't just about the fun and games. that is just an added perk.

I get a great joy in presenting the First Ladies in senior centers. I have met some very interesting people. Just yesterday in Milwaukee I was presenting Eleanor Roosevelt. I met a man who lived just down the road from the New York govenor's mansion as a boy. FDR used to yell at the him and his friends for throwing chestnuts at the mansion windows. I also met a woman who had worked in a New York hat manufacturer in the 1940's. She met Eleanor when the First Lady went to the store to order her 1940 and 1944 innaguration hats.

I have family in Cincinnati and perforn in the area one or twice a year. Perhaps we can meet.

Jessica-

Funny you mentioned Eleanor Roosevelt. My dad cooked breakfast for her at his fraternity at Ohio Wesleyan College in the late early 50's...He said afterwards she "appeared" back in the kitchen and helped the guys clean up...

Eleanor learned her way around a kitchen back in the 30's when she was inspecting boy's camps for Franklin. My show has an anecdote concerning that.
