Stacy 0 Report Share Posted April 2, 2007 Is anyone a CDP? If so, does it benefit you? Is it easy to get the required CEU's? How do you market this credential? Just curious. Stacy

Sandra Stimson 0 Report Share Posted April 26, 2007 I have been wondering the same thing. I really think I want to go for it but will it do me any good besides the knowledge. Tessa Hi Tessa. That is a great question. You can go to www.nccdp.org and click on Benefits of Certification. Many Certified Activity professionals have gone on to get their Certifed Dementia Practitioner Certification. On our web site we list all that are certified and i think you will see many CDP's. To apply for certification you must have the following 1. Certified or licensed in a health care profession 2. Complete a comprehensive Alzheimer's and Dementia Seminar at minimum 7 hours by an appproved NCCDP instructor. 3. Experience To keep your certification you must have 10 ceu hours every two years and renewal is every two years You can get free ceus through the Alzheimer's Care Guide which is listed on www.nccdp.org. Certification is a personal choice but we believe that certification shows a health care professional committment to dementia education and staying current on trends and research. We strongly believe in dementia education and providing competent care by trained health care professionals. If I can answer any other questions, please contact me at nationalccdp@aol.com Sandra Stimson Executive Director National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners
nurse5 0 Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 Hi Stacy, Yes I have put it on my resume, my business card and families feel more confident. I manage a 58 bed dementia unit. Families like certifications as well as administration. It makes you look as if you go the extra mile. CAtherine : Is anyone a CDP? If so, does it benefit you? Is it easy to get the required CEU's? Sandra Stimson 0 Report Share Posted December 2, 2007 Is anyone a CDP? If so, does it benefit you? Is it easy to get the required CEU's? How do you market this credential? Just curious. Stacy Hi Stacy There are several thousand CDP's in the United States, Canada and Austrailia. As there are over 75% dementia clients living in long term care, it is essential that staff are trained to provide competent care to the dementia clients. Certification means you are trained in Alzheimer's and Dementia Care and that traning was comprehensive and provided by a live instructor approved by the NCCDP. Please see www.nccdp.org for more information. Alterantive Solutions in Long Term Care www.activitytherapy.com Sandra

It was an excellent program, and I am looking forward to teaching clases in Texas. I am planning to get started with Houston possibly in February. trixiedg 0 Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 I wish someone would offer the class in Mississippi. I would love to become certified. We really don't have a lot of opportunities to learn more about our furthering our profession in our state.
