Guest Manderley Report Share Posted December 10, 2005 Hi, I'm currently an Activity Assistant at a SNF and am wondering if I should go back to school to get my Recreation Therapist degree (I do have a BA in Communication), or if I should take the course(s) to become certified as an Activity Director. Guest Guest Report Share Posted December 10, 2005 Hey, I am a TR specialist and I would say to get your AD certification if you plan to stay in long term care. The real importance of TR is working with all types of people, parks and recreation, psychiatrics, children, disabilites etc... I think the AD certification and the fact that you have a BA would be plenty to make you a great assest to any facility. Plus, the amount of time and money you would spend getting TR BA versus the AD certification is something to consider! niquee11 0 Report Share Posted December 10, 2005 Hi! I have a BA in Therapeutic Recreation but have not pursued the CTRS certification. I am, however, certified by NCCAP as an Activity Director as well. I think that it won't hurt, but help you should you decide to become a CTRS. So, I say go for it! storm8397 0 Report Share Posted October 7, 2012 I agree. If you plan on staying in long term care, assisted livings and adult day care etc.... your ADC is the way to go.
