I'm new to the AD field. I'm in west Texas, at a small nursing home (current census 29, with a few empty beds). I'm earning 6.50/hour. I also handle the medical records and am a one-person activities department (thank heavens for volunteers LOL). Actually, my past life was in the oil & gas field, I made a nice salary (significantly more than I make now), but for the much less significant stress and the 7 minute drive as opposed to the 1 hour drive I had before ..... this is heaven!

I currently work as an activity assistant in a long term care facility in the Central Valley in California. I was wondering though if anybody can tell me on average how much an AD will make in California. Is where your located in California vital and how about the size of the facility. I will become an AD by the end of this year so I am just curious and I do plan on become NCCAP Certified. Thank you so much.

I live in Texas and I would say that 13 is pretty average for a certified activity director and since you have been doing it for a while I would think you should be up a dollar or two. Especially if you have been working those 12 years at the same place. That is where you would get more is by getting the raises.

hi! i was an activity director in indianapolis, indiana and i made $10.00/hr. i moved down to houston in december and i work in tomball, tx. i work as an activity assistant because you have to take schooling at most places down here and i make $7.00. and yea as you all have said we are way under paid. and then for texas to have to take classes and not even give you the pay scale that you deserve is ridiculous.

I work at a 173 bed facility in a rural town in Florida and make $10.25 an hour. I realize I don't get paid well but I do love my job and my residents. Plus a wonderful staff of three full time and five part time. This is definitely not a job for those who just want to be rich. But maybe that is what makes us good at what we do...we are here for the residents, not the money. I tend to view this as where God put me as a ministry. It is interesting to see, though, that we are all underpaid, no matter where we live and work.

I'm in CA, on the central coast (it's VERY expensive to live here, average house price is $500,000) and I make $32,000 a year salaried. I have taken the CA 36 hour class and have a BA in recreation.

I am a brand new assistant, new to the field. I was grossly UNDERPAID as a store manager but I made a heck of a lot more than I do now at $10 an hour. The stress is totally different, however. But I enjoy it and have plans to really learn a lot and grow.

I am taking MEPAP 1 and 2 and hope to be certified in a year - I don't think that will help at my current job as an assistant, but I hope it will open some doors for me.

I'd like to publicly thank my husband, because if he weren't paying the bills, I couldn't be doing this.

Thank you, Tim!

How much pay is sufficient for assistant activity director? I know everywhere is different, but I would like a guestimate.

Define "sufficient"..... :D

For what I hope to accomplish, there is nothing sufficient, because one can't put a dollar amount to all that passion and hard work.

From what I can see, for an inexperienced assistant with no certs, my $10 an hour is acceptable - for now. :D

As for me I have been an Activities Director for about 10 years, I'm an ADC and have a B.S. in communications. For the last few years I have been working as the AD with an assistant because I am also the Business office assistant and medical records clerk. For the last year I have been working towards my Administrators license (40 hours left of AIT and National and state test..yay!) and you can bet that I would pay someone with my qualifications and experience more than $11/hr.

I worked in a skilled nursing home in Houston Texas I work as a Receptionist and made $11.00 , thats when I started thinking about being a A.D I want to make more money and at the same time enjoy my future job. I was offered a A.D job last August at another Nursing home and they offered me $15.00 and they were going to pay my A.D course. Plans did not fall through.

Hi RuthAnn:

I have been and Activity Director for over 30 years, alot of times you just have to sell yourself, wage is based on experience how enthusiastic and determined you are believe in what your worth, if a facility wants you bad enough they will negotiate. I make over $20 Hr also skill care, asisted living and day care pay less, i have always een skill care.

Thanks

Mary
