Hi Chastity,

I am also new to the field. I have been the receptionist in the facility for 2 years. I have always helped with Activities and was good friends with the Director. She had to have back surgrery which left her unable to return to work. She is in bad shape and has had 9 surguries in a year. They asked me to take the position. I am on week 15. Can't wait to be done and get started. Good luck to you.

Hi Chastity,

I am also on Week 15 and have seen you updating your assignments on the website.  My name is Angela Waters (go by Angel) and I work at Carlton Shores in Daytona Beach.  I have been working in the medical field since 2016 and I can't imagine working anyplace else.

I think I am going to enjoy networking with everyone on this web site.  Getting new ideas from others will help me with new activities for my residents.  Both long term and rehabilitation.

Good luck on the final exam.

Angel

Hello everyone,

My name is Tom Holt and I am the Population Health Director and I also fill the role as Activities Director at our rural critical access hospital. I was a school teacher for 15 years and a principal for 5 years before entering the healthcare field. I did miss the rewarding feeling in working with children in the school setting. Surprisingly enough, I have found that working with swing bed patients is equally as rewarding. I very much value the time that I spend with them. I love to truly get to know them. I like using those therapeutic rapport  techniques in building trust with each patient. It's comforting to know that my time spent with the patients is worthwhile and lasting. That patient-centered care in respecting his or her dignity and promoting their abilities gives them hope.

What do you find as the largest challenge in working with residents?

What do you find as the biggest reward in working with residents?

Thanks, Tom
