Hi everyone my name Janee and I have been working in activities for about 7 years now. I am currently taking my MEPAP 1 and I am almost finished!! I try to juggle being a parent, working full-time, and doing school on line, let me tell you it harder than I had imagined. I do feel it is all worth it at the end because I do love being a mother and I love my job. I am the one who gets to put a smile on my residents faces. I hope to learn new ideas and also input my ideas as well.

Hey Janee! My name is Betsy and I've been an activity director for about 6 months. I too am taking my MEPAP 1 and finish very soon---like tomorrow :) I don't even have kids and it's been hard to manage the new job and the school work, but it's been incredibly informative. So many people here have such creative minds and it has expanded mine. I've actually been marking certain assignments to share with my regional bosses because I think it's something they could implement in the company. Not that I do such an amazing job on my homework, but the idea of it could be very beneficial. In your seven years what do you find to be the same issue that you've had since year 1? if there is any of course?

Hello all!. My name is Kimberly, I've been the Activity Director at a skilled nursing facility in Lebanon, PA for about 6  months now. I'm completing the MEPAP courses as part of my hire agreement. I started as a part-time Activity Assistant 2 years ago after getting divorced and needing to get back into the workforce. Janee, Betsy & Denise, I agree with you all: being a mom, working full-time and going to school is tough, but in the end, it will all be worth it.

I'm currently also going to school part-time for my BS in Health Care Administration. There are days, however, where I think that perhaps I may just want to continue down the path of Activities. Going from an Activity Assistant, where I was so hands on with the residents (all day, every day), to now as the department Director, where my exposure is so much less (a few hours a week) has been somewhat disappointing. I'm not sure I want to give up the close interaction with the residents that I know will happen if I move to Administrator. I love interacting with the residents; getting to know them; almost becoming a part of their family. I think I will miss that.

Hello everyone my name is LaTonya most shorten it and just say Tonya. I'm currently living in California I'm on my 10 week of the MEPAP 1 class. I am a Activities Assistant for Parkview Post Acute in Santa Rosa CA. Unfortunately I am not a mom, so ladies I definitely commend you for that. However I do work two jobs and a new husband and take this class along with Abilities Care Class. The most interesting thing about me is I Line Dance! I have many certificates and qualified to many things but Activities has been my favorite bring life back to the residents that thought just because they are here in this facility that they have to die. Not on my watch! so I love bring life back to them!!! I'm looking forward to starting the second part of the MEPAP .

My name is Jackie and I work in Sulphur Springs,Tx. I am new to activities and will be the 1st to say that the amount of work that an AD does is overwhelming at times. I am in the MEPAP1-070516 course and have enjoyed it . I feel that I have too much on my plate at times, but know that I am not alone. I have a family, animals etc that require much of my time . I am trying to do a great job at work and it's sometimes very challenging but I do enjoy it and have  a whole new respect for activity professionals.I guess the hardest thing is just trying to juggle the many tasks that we have. The facility that I work at is locally owned by a family that I respect very much. I have to say that they do have the residents best interest at heart and it is great not working for a big corporation.

Greetings!

My name is Susie. I work as an Activity Assistant in a skilled nursing facility. I am working on my MEPAP 1. I have only worked in Activities for over a year but I love it so much I've decided to make it my career. There are so many different facilites that you can work in. I hope to experience them all someday. Right now I can only finish the MEPAP 1 and wait a year to take MEPAP2. I just don't have enough hours to fulfill the requirement for the certification right now. I do have previous experience as a receptionist in an assisted living community.

My current situation: I'm a newlywed, no children yet, work fulltime. I do have a puppy that makes me feel like I have a child, lol. He even wakes us up in the middle of the night.

Sometimes when I see an activity on the calendar that I particularly do not like, i have to remind myself that it's not what I like it's what the residents like. That always helps me :)

Hello! My name is Brianna and I am new the activity field. I recently accepted the position of Activity Director at my facility. It has been great so far and very rewarding. It has been stressful and challenging going through the MEPAP1 class, working full time, and raising two children all at the same time but I am almost done with my class which is a relief! I have learned a lot and I am so grateful for the oppurtunities I have been given. I have worked at my facility for almost 10 years. I was pregnant with my oldest daughter when I started working in the kitchen. I gradually climbed the ladder in the kitchen to a cook which I was in that position for three years when I got the chance to move onto activities. I love the job and being able to work with the residents has been amazing. My favorite part of the job is when I sit down with one resident and just have a conversation. Getting to know them and the things they have done and seen in their lifetimes if amazing! I am looking forward to many more years to come in the activity department.

What's happening everyone!? I'm Alyssa and I'm new here. I am currently taking the MEPAP 1 course and am just about finished :) I have been working in activities for a year and half now and couldn't be more in my element. I enjoy working with the residents and making them laugh. I enjoy doing activities that get the residents thinking outside of the box. I also enjoy the outings and getting the residents to exercise with me.
