Wacky Day for June 2nd -- National Rocky Road Day

Rocky Road ice cream is a delicious treat with an interesting culinary heritage. In 1929, after the stock market crash, Dreyer Ice Cream's founder, William Dreyer, calmed his Black Thursday nerves by creating the Original Rocky Road. Mixing chunky almonds, mini marshmallows and delicious milk chocolate ice cream, he created a flavor of ice cream that would make people smile during the tough economic times of the Great Depression. It instantly became an American favorite and its fame soon spread to the rest of the world.

Did you know that in Australia, people add jam to their rocky road ice cream? And in the United Kingdom, people add cherries and raisins? No matter where or how you are eating your Rocky Road ice cream, it certainly is a delicious reason to celebrate.

June 8th Wacky Day is: Best Friends Day. Hold a activity where the residents bring their best friend or their picture(s), if they have one of their best friend. Let residents have time to tell everyone about their best friend. It might be someone in the facility, a family member, someone from their past or even their spouse. Allow plenty of time for everyone to participate in this activity. Then after your done the activity you could copy the pictures of residents friends & post them on the bulletin board for a few days.

Although the day is gone for this year... June 6th 1933 was when the first Drive-In Movie Theater opened in New Jersey, This would be a great time to havea discussion group with resident about the evolution of movies and movie theaters. Also, could show an classic from the 30s as an evening activity.

The Wacky day for June 21st is...... Go Skate Day. Now I don't recommend that you let residents go skating. However maybe a good skating movie with some snacks & drinks, like those you would have if you were at a roller rink, would be a great activity.

Wacky Day for June 26th is National Chocolate Pudding Day -- Instead of making plain oh pudding try something else, more fun. Chocolate Pudding Shots

Combine a package of instant chocolate pudding with 3/4 cup of milk. Add 1/4 cup vodka and 1/2 cup Irish Cream, then fold in 8 ounces of Cool Whip. Put into individual serving cups, and store in the freezer until the party (I mean activity, lol) starts!
